8 Must-Watch Films in Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2018



Grab your movie buddy and your favorite popcorn because here comes the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2018!

This year, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino will celebrate their second anniversary. In line with this, the Film Fest is joined by eight Filipino films that will be screened from August 15-21, in celebration and support of Buwan ng Wika. This event is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and their partnered theaters.

8. Ang Babaeng Allergic to Wifi

Directed by Jun Lana, starring Sue Ramirez and the recently controversial actor, Jameson Blake.

Synopsis: Norma (Sue Ramirez) is a typical millennial who loves to spend her time online, posting cute photos of her boyfriend. But what happens if a social media junkie is forced to move away to a place with no signal or worse, wifi?

7. The Day After Valentine’s

Directed by Jason Paul Laxaman, starring Bella Padilla and JC Santos.

Synopsis: The plot of the movie hasn’t been revealed yet, but based on the trailer it seems like a “The one that got away” kind of love story.

6. Unli Life

A comedy directed by Miko Livelo. This film stars Vhong Navarro, Joey Marquez, Ejay Falcon, etc.

Synopsis: A guy (Vhong) is rejected by his girlfriend (Wynwyn) when he was about to propose, but he gets a chance to change his fate after meeting an old man (Joey) who gave him a “Whiskey” drink which allows him to travel through time.

5. Madilim ang Gabi

An intense film directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., starring Gina Alajar, Phillip Salvador, Bembol Roco, and Felix Roco.

Synopsis: A Filipino family becomes involved in a violent and unpredictable drug trade.

4. Pinay Beauty

A film starring Chai Fonancier and Edgar Allan Guzman, directed by Jay Abello. The film was supposed to be submitted on Cinemalaya 2018 but it was withdrawn.

Synopsis (submitted to Cinemalaya): Migs needs to settle a huge debt to a loan shark. When Migs explains that he doesn’t have the money yet, the loan shark proposes that he could settle the bill if Migs could find Lovi Poe and introduce him to the actress. How does a regular guy who knows no one in show-business meet a celebrity?

3. “Bakwit Boys”

A movie directed by Jason Paul Laxaman, starring Devon Seron, Ryle Paolo Santiago and Niko Natividad.

Synopsis: When a super typhoon ravages the hometown of four musically inclined boys, (Nikko, Ryle, and two others) they meet a rich girl (Devon), who helps them record their songs and make their dreams come to life.

2. Signal Rock

A film directed by Chito Roño, starring Christian Bables. Although the movie hasn’t released any teaser yet, we all know for sure that this is something to look forward to, especially with award-winning director Chito Roño, as well as best supporting actor, Christian Bables.

1.We Will Not Die Tonight

Another action-packed film directed by Richard Somes, starring Erich Gonzales, Alex Medina, Maxine Eigenmann, and Paolo Paraiso.

Synopsis: The plot of the movie of hasn’t been revealed as well, but watching the teaser, it seems like another hard-kicking and punching movie representing the current situation of the Philippines.
