Daniel pulls the comedic punches and finds his star power at par with heavyweights such as comedy genius Vice Ganda and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. Comfortable and in good company, Daniel remembers only the endless laughter and kwela stories on and off the set during the two-month taping of the movie. “Wala kaming ginawa ni Vice Ganda kundi maglokohan!” he puts bluntly laughing. “Throughout the whole movie, hanggang matapos, masaya lang talaga lahat.” Vice was a major force on the set, along with Direk Joyce Bernal who kept everyone on their toes—all in good fun. The running gags and the positive spirit of the cast made every day on set such a fun and memorable one. So much so that even first-timer Pia couldn’t help but feel at ease with the boisterous bunch. “Nakita ko na naging mas komportable din si Pia kasi nakita niya kung paano kami kakulit on set ni Vice, so nakisama na rin siya,” says Daniel, admitting that he was like any other normal person and other cast members awed by the beauty of Pia. “Siyempre ang tingin natin sa kanya ay Miss Universe, sobrang taas. Pero on the other side, nakita ko na sobrang simpleng tao niya,” he reveals. “Very kalog at makulit, parang tayo lang din. Simple, napakabait na tao, pero malakas mang-asar. Malakas magbiro at talagang masaya kasama.” She may have reigned the universe, but she is very much a down-to-earth woman.

In addition to working with a seasoned, stellar cast, nothing could have made the holiday movie even better for Daniel than working with two loves of his life—His mom Karla and Kathryn Bernardo, who both made special appearances in the movie. Daniel’s mother, actress Karla Estrada, played Barna, one of Gandarra’s (Vice Ganda’s) good friends, while Kath made a short cameo. The Revenger Squad revolved around the story of Emy (Vice) and her younger brother Chino (Daniel). The two—after discovering their super powers (Emi had suppressed his)—join forces with Kweenie (Pia), another superhero, to take down the bad guys. The fun, campy movie is one of the blockbuster films in the MMFF along with Coco Martin’s Ang Panday. At the awards night, The Revenger Squad proudly picked up the People’s Choice Award.
