Darren Criss won the best actor in a limited series or TV movie at the 76th Golden Globe Awards.
In his speech, the actor dedicated his award to his Filipina mother.
“As we’ve seen, it’s been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood,” Darren said upon accepting his award. “I am so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as a son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming to this country … Mom I know you’re watching this. You’re hugely responsible for all of the good things in my life. I love you dearly, I dedicate this to you.”
He also addressed fellow nominees and winners during his acceptance speech,
“Congratulations to all of you,” he beamed.
“This is totally awesome!” Darren said as a parting statement.
His last quote was a reference to his line as Harry Potter in the musical, ‘A Very Potter Musical” which is a musical comedy by Team StarKid productions based on the famous Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
If you were a Pigfarts-slash-Starkid fan before Darren Criss landed a role in Glee, then you’d totally catch the awesome reference he made in his Golden Globes speech.
Darren is one of the primary songwriters and composers, along with A.J. Holmes and Carlos Valdes, for Team StarKid musical productions.
One of the lyrics goes, “I’ll cast some spells with the flick of my wand. Defeat the Dark Arts, yeah, bring it on! And do it all with my best friend, Ron ’cause together we’re totally awesome.”
Fast forward 10 years later, Darren wins a Golden Globe award for his role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, beating fellow nominees Antonio Banderas, Daniel Brühl, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Hugh Grant.
