The Live-Action Mulan’s First Trailer Is Changing People’s Opinions

Disney has finally released the first trailer for the live-action remake of the classic 1998 movie, Mulan. Treasured by many, it was first received with backlash when it was revealed how the adaptation won’t be having talking dragons or singing soldiers. But as people watched the trailer, their minds quickly changed.

The trailer shows that this time, the movie will reflect who Mulan truly is inside – A Chinese Feminist Warrior.

As the first Asian princess in Disney, many kids with Asian blood looked up to Mulan. Her story posed female empowerment, love for family, and her country. There’s no denying how protective we got when the news broke out that the remake would be taking another path from the original.

However, the story of Mulan was based off a classical Chinese legend, “Hua Mulan.” Fans speculate that Disney wanted to respect Chinese culture and history this time since the animated version wasn’t well-received in China before.

Unlike other Disney remakes that have come out recently, such as Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, Mulan isn’t going to be exactly like the original film.

The movie will star Liu Yifei as Mulan and feature Chinese stars such as Donnie Yen, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li.

We may be missing some of our favorite characters like Mushu and Li Shang, and some of the songs we love. But on the bright side, it looks like Mulan’s scoring will feature instrumental versions of the animated film’s original soundtrack. And now, we also won’t be distracted from the strong and independent warrior that Mulan is.

The movie is also already being praised for being visually stunning.

Her power radiates in the battle scenes and when she was having a makeover for the matchmaker!
